Foundations

Choosing the Foundation

When thinking about the foundations for the SIP house you need to consider several aspects depending on your needs. The SIP houses foundations are an essential part of the building, especially when we talk about stability and longevity of the structure, flexibility of the plumbing, electrical and other systems. It is also crucial to energy efficiency and warmth of the house. A well-designed foundation can minimize heat loss through the ground and help to maintain a consistent indoors temperature, so it is very important to choose the right type of foundation used in the house.

Before choosing the type of foundation for the SIP house, you need to evaluate the size of the house, the design and installation, as well as wiring, plumbing, electrical and other systems which will be required to. Timber Cabins can offer two SIP houses foundations options, best fitted for the SIP structure to ensure maximum energy efficiency, stability and quality of the building.

Perimeter Beam Foundation

The first option of the foundation system includes perimeter beam which serves as solid foundation of the SIP house. Perimeter beam is a structural element that runs around the perimeter of the foundation to provide support for the walls and distribute the weight evenly. It is made of concrete to provide support and ensure that structure remains stable. Due to its flexibility, this type of foundation system can adapt to specific design and various requirements of the building.

Perimeter or ring beam not only provides stability but also leads to more flexible interior layouts, plumbing solutions and a more energy-efficient design. It is the most recommended type of foundation which ensures long-term stability and helps to resist harsh conditions, such as wind or seismic activity, by tying the foundation and walls together. However, this option requires more construction time compared to the second type of foundation.

Pier Foundation

The second option is pier foundation where vertical support elements help to elevate and stabilize a structure. This foundation option can be used to build a house in uneven terrain or difficult ground conditions. In this type of foundation system there are also used horizontal floor joists on top of the foundation to provide support for the flooring SIP panels. Joists are also important for creating a level and space required between foundation and SIP panels.

This type of foundation is more cost-friendly and time-efficient. It is recommended for smaller SIP houses with less requirements for insulation, plumbing fixtures and other systems of the house. It is worth noting that houses with tier foundations are higher – this type of foundation creates a higher level from the ground due to the space needed between the foundation and SIP panels for insulation and other installation.
